A few weeks ago I made some pans of fudge, a few sugar cookie bars, and a lot of cheesecake parfaits for a school luncheon that we helped host.

We absolutely love the flavor from this dreamsicle cake, so I decided to use the flavors to make a simple fudge. Adding just a little orange extract and a swirl of color made this orange creamsicle fudge my new favorite fudge.

Why Make This Easy Fudge

Fudge is one of those treats that can be made in just a few minutes, and it is a hit with everyone. You only need one pan and two bowls to make this swirled treat.

You are going to love how easy it is to make this no fail fudge and how it tastes like an orange creamsicle bar. The bonus is that this creamsicle candy will not make your teeth chatter when you bite into it.

Ingredients Needed

Have you heard of frosting fudge? All you need is a bag of chocolate chips and container of canned frosting to make fudge. This simple fudge base is so fun to embellish with different flavors and combos.

  • White Chocolate Chips - You will need a large bag of white chips to get 2 cups. (2 cups = 12 ounces)
  • Butter - A little bit of unsalted butter helps the white chips melt easier over heat.
  • Canned Vanilla Frosting - Melts with the chips to give the two ingredient fudge its sweet and creamy texture.
  • Orange Extract - Gives the fudge a delicious orange flavor.
  • Orange Food Coloring - Adds a bright splash of color.

How to Make Orange Fudge

This orange creamsicle fudge made with frosting is so easy to put together in minutes. Simply melt the ingredients together, add some flavoring and color, and then swirl in a pan. Easy, peasy!

  1. Add the white chocolate chips and the butter to a saucepan and heat it over low heat until it melts into a paste like dough.
  2. Remove the foil lid from the canned frosting and heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and pour it into the white chocolate mixture.
  3. Continue to stir over the low heat until the fudge is melted and creamy.
  4. Divide the hot fudge mixture into two separate bowls.
  5. Add the orange extract and and a little bit of gel food coloring to one bowl and mix it in very thoroughly.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of vanilla fudge and orange fudge into a foil-lined pan. Spoon about half of each color into the bottom of the pan, then swirl it gently with a knife.
  7. Repeat this step with the remaining fudge. Swirl the top one more time and then let it cool for about 10 minutes
  8. Add the orange jelly candies, if desired. Do not add them too soon, or they will sink down into the orange cream fudge too far.

Storage Recommendations

Counter: This easy fudge will keep on the counter for 3-4 days in a tightly sealed container.

Refrigerator: Keep this orange creamsicle fudge in an air tight container in the fridge for 6-7 days.

Freezer: Wrap the entire block of fudge in plastic wrap and then place in a freezer safe bag or container for 1-2 months. To serve, remove and thaw overnight in the fridge; cut into squares right before you need it. Freezing it whole keeps the fudge from drying out.

Tips and Tricks

  • Line a pan with foil or parchment paper, so you can lift the orange swirl fudge out easily once it is set.
  • Heat the white chocolate chips and butter over a very low heat to avoid scorching or burning the chocolate.
  • Use a toothpick to add the orange gel coloring a little bit at time. Gel colors are very concentrated, so you will only need a little bit.
  • Let the creamsicle fudge completely cool before cutting it into squares.

Escape to summer no matter the weather with this delicious Orange Creamsicle Fudge. This simple orange fudge recipe is easy to make with just a few ingredients. The flavor will transport your taste buds to a tropical place.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white chocolate chips (12 oz.)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 - 16 ounce can vanilla frosting
  • 1 ½ teaspoons orange extract
  • orange gel food coloring
  • 12 orange slice gummy candies

Instructions

  1. Line an 8x8 pan with foil or parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Place the white chips and butter in a large pan and heat over low heat until melted. (It will look more like a creamy paste.)
  3. Peel off the metal liner on the canned frosting. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  4. Pour into the melted white chocolate mixture. Stir until melted and creamy. Divide the mixture evenly into two bowls.
  5. Stir the orange extract into one bowl of fudge. Use a toothpick to add a little bit of orange gel food coloring at a time to the same bowl. Stir it in and look at your color. Add more if you want it darker. Make sure to use a new toothpick each time if you continue to add color.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of both fudge mixtures randomly into the prepared pan. Swirl with a knife every so often, then continue spooning more of each color into the pan.
  7. Use the knife to swirl the top a little bit. Be careful not to over swirl, or you will lose the white color.
  8. Let the fudge cool for 10 minutes. Cut the gummy orange slices into 3 pieces and press them into the top of the fudge.
  9. Let the fudge completely cool and set up before cutting into 36 pieces.

Notes

One place says full bag of white chocolate chips, another place it says 2 cups. A bag of the chocolate chips is only 11 ounces, and 2 cups would be 16 ounces. Which is it?

Weight volume is different, so 2 cups of chocolate chips is equal to 12 ounces. Bags of chips all used to be 12 ounces, but I see some white chips are now 11 oz. For this particular fudge recipe, the 2 cups or 11 ounce bag will work. If you are worried that it won't set properly, reduce the butter to 1 tablespoon.

How do you make this without nasty extract. I hate any extract it doesn't taste like anything it is supposed to be.

      • Jocelyn

You can leave out the extract and enjoy a plain vanilla fudge. If you use a good quality extract, they usually taste like what they say.

I came across yoyr recipe while doing a search for creamsicle fudge and it looked so easy that I gave it a try. While the fudge came out ok all I taste is the vanilla frosting, even with 2 teaspoons of orange extract.

Is there a trick to makeing this taste more like creamsicle then vanilla frosting? Maybe a better extraxt?

Even with the white chocolate melted into it, you still thought it tasted like frosting? I have made this so many times for events and no one has ever said that about it. A better quality orange extract may help. You could also add an extra teaspoon of orange extract to give it more of a stronger flavor. I would recommend adding 1/2 teaspoon at a time and taste testing it before swirling it together though.

Thank you for your reply Jocelyn, I'll go get a new bottle of orange extract (maybe mine was too old) and try your recipe again.

The batch that I have is still good but yes, all I can taste is the vanilla frosting.

It's not clear to me about the extract and gel coloring amounts. Is it 1 1/2 of extract AND 1 1/2 of the gel???

    Reply

    • Jocelyn

The recipe calls for 1 1/2 teaspoons of orange extract and some orange gel food coloring. You will only use a little bit of food coloring as it is very concentrated. So, yes, it is two separate ingredients.
