THE NEIGHBORHOODS

Each neighborhood in Austin offers their unique appeal. Pleasant apartments in downtown Austin, eclectic houses in East Austin, historic abodes on South Congress, and Barton Springs’ cozy gathering places are among Austin’s greatest areas to stay.

Downtown

Congress Avenue, which begins in front of the pink-granite State Capitol building, is the focal point of Austin’s vibrant center. A lively downtown dwells on all sides of this long main street.

  • Downtown is marked with historic reminders of the creative frontier town Austin once was, but definitely check out the built-for-a-cattle-baron Driskill Hotel. From the elegant, timeless lobby, walk up the grand staircase and enter into old-world Texas at the hotel’s bar.

  • Head to South Congress Avenue for window-shopping at the quirky boutiques.

  • Downtown is also home to the famous “I love you so much” mural. Photo op, anyone?

East Austin

Perhaps the fastest growing neighborhood in Austin, the eclectic eastside is where old meets new and fresh eateries and boutiques are popping up on every corner.

  • Taste Argentina at Buenos Aires Café, a family-owned restaurant that celebrates Argentina's food and traditions. Chef Reina's menu features beloved family recipes and seasonal ingredients. They are the birthplace of homemade empanadas!

  • Check out Kitty Cohen’s, a Palm Springs-style joint with a patio pool and frosé on tap.

  • For shopping fair trade international art and jewelry, Corocoro store is perfect. Here you’ll find big bright colors, heavy signature pieces, and hand-crafted furniture.

Barton Creek

Barton Creek is a quiet, safe, upscale neighborhood in west Austin where you can shop, dine, and enjoy nature.

  • The Barton Creek Greenbelt and Zilker Park are close by with hiking and biking trails.

  • The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum exhibits the work of Charles Umlauf and other visual and performing artists in a museum and a garden setting.

The downtown area is walkable and extremely safe (perfect for post-dinner strolls)!

RIdeshare

While Austin stays warm and sunny nearly all year, the prime visiting months are September through November and March through May. During these pleasant fall and spring seasons, temperatures tend to hover between 70 and 80 degrees during the day.

In June through August, temperatures rise into the 90s and can often reach over 100 degrees. December through February is usually a quieter time to visit and offers a mild winter with temperatures that tend to average into the low 60s.

Spring

  • Springtime weather in Austin can be unpredictable, as rain may come and go.

  • Make sure to pack a raincoat (customized bride-tribe ones, perhaps??)

  • Generally highs in the 70s and 80s, with lows in the 50s or 60s at night.

Summer

  • Summertime in the Live Music Capital of the World means warm nights, bright lights, and live concerts.

  • Make sure to bring a hat and sunglasses, as temperatures can rise to the high 90’s.

  • Nighttime usually calls for low-mid 70’s.

Fall

  • Perfect balance of bright blue skies and mild temperatures

  • The cooler fall weather also makes Austin a great place to enjoy time outdoors, from hiking to biking, or sitting on the patio of a local brewery.

  • Can be as low as high 40’s at night to high 80’s during the day.

Winter

  • Thanks to the city’s mild weather, during the wintertime you’ll find plenty to do in Austin both indoors and out.

  • Lows in the upper 30’s to highs in the low 60’s.
