When I tried to think of fun scents for a sugar scrub, Cranberry immediately came to mind… probably because I was brainstorming soon after Thanksgiving, but I’ll take inspirtation wherever I can get it.

This sugar scrub recipe is easy to make and requires only a few ingredients. This is what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Coconut OilCranberry Sugar Scrub Recipe (4)
  • Cranberry Premium Grade Fragrance OilCranberry Sugar Scrub Recipe (5)(I used 4-6 drops. You can use more or less based on personal preference.)
  • Red food coloring (This is optional. I used 6-8 drops, but you could use more for a deeper color or none at all if you’d like.)
  1. Melt your coconut oil on the stove top or in the microwave.
  2. Combine all ingredients and stir. You’ll want the sugar to be wet but not soupy. If too much coconut oil is used, the mixture will solidify too much once the coconut oil returns to room temperature.

I used this is the shower this morning, and I love it’s sweet scent and how soft it leaves my skin.

I also made some printable Cranberry sugar scrub labels. Click HERE to get your copy.

NO NO NO on the red dye in your sugar scrub. Why not use real cranberries??? Red dye is SOOOOOO bad! I’ll make it… but without your dye! Blackberry tea makes a pretty red color too! HINT! Please stay away from dyes in your ingredients.

Other than that… love you site! It’s amazing and plentiful of information!

Natural alternatives are a great idea. Choosing not to use the dye will only affect the look, not the smell so it’s totally optional. 🙂

What is wrong with food coloring? Just remember, if you use real fruit you will have to keep it in the fridge or it will rot quickly.

Do you use plain old granulated sugar in all of your sugar scrubs?

Yep! You could use brown sugar too if you’d like, but I do usually prefer white sugar if I’m planning to color them.

How far in advance do you make these? Will they keep for a long time?

They should keep for a good amount of time. It’s mainly sugar and coconut oil, both of which can be stored at room temperature for a while.

My boyfriend is deathly allergic to coconut. What do you recommend for an alternative?

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve heard of others using sesame, olive, and almond oils as alternatives, but I haven’t tried them myself.
